Do you love salamanders? Are you interested in helping increase salamander survival in their breeding season?

Every year, with the first warm rains of the spring, Spotted Salamanders participate in a mass migration from their woodland homes to their water breeding sites. This involves crossing many roads and often results in fatalities due to cars and traffic. Each year, we train Salamander Migration Volunteers to monitor the Spotted Salamander migration and act as crossing guards for these animals! To become a volunteer, you must attend this full training and orientation to the program, sign up for a minimum of three nights during the migration window (mid-Februrary to mid-March) to be on-call for assisting with a potential migration event, and be willing to walk up to two miles on a flat road during rainy evenings.

Questions? Contact Sanctuary Staff at 410-222-8006.

Ages 18 and older. Free.
