The Full Moon for August is called Sturgeon Moon because Native Americans knew that the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this full Moon. These prehistoric-looking fish have been traced back to around 136 million years ago and many people call them “living fossils.” Join us for a full moon paddle to celebrate the sturgeon and experience the Patuxent River at night.
Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time. Bring a paddle buddy you are comfortable sharing a canoe with, plenty of water, sunscreen, sun hat, sunglasses, a lunch, and closed toed shoes that can get wet. Ages 16 and older. Fee: $20. Registration required: Register online at https://apm.activecommunities.com/aarecparks/Home. ActiveNet #18789. For questions, call 410-222-8006 or email email@example.com.
