Join retired Anne Arundel County Forester, Bud Reaves, to explore the wonders of the forest floor. The forest ‘floor’ is one of the most overlooked parts of the forest. More than just leaves and twigs, it is the engine that allows trees and other plants to grow and live. Much of what is going on in this crucial ‘layer’ of the forest is on a micro scale and smaller, and underground and out of sight. This workshop will feature a 45 minute presentation on the dynamics of the forest floor or ‘litter’ layer that is a feature of all forests. We will then go outside to the forest to look at the litter layer to see, feel and smell what the litter layer is like. We will take samples and then return to the visitors center to look at the samples under dissecting and compound microscopes. Ages 12 and older. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Fee $10 per person. Registration required. For questions call 410-222-8006
