The study of reptiles and amphibians is called herpetology, from the Greek word for crawling animals. Those who study, or otherwise enjoy the company of reptiles and amphibians refer to themselves as herpers, and this group of animals as herps.

The Sanctuary is home to 25 species of reptiles and 22 species of amphibians. Though projects have changed over the years, research is ongoing. Click the links below to learn more about herp research at Jug Bay.
