LOCATION:  Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary, 1361 Wrighton Road, Lothian MD 20711
OPEN PERIOD: Monday, November 6, 2017 – open until filled
BASE SALARY: $15.00 / hr
POSITION INFORMATION: Permanent Part-Time (1400 hours)
ANTICIPATED START DATE: January 8, 2018
WORK SCHEDULE: Three to four eight (8) hour days/week with occasional Saturdays

Main Duties

  • Lead Sanctuary outreach efforts for education and public programs through the management, development, and maintenance of content for website, social media, newsletter publications, etc.;
  • Deliver high quality education programs aligned to local and national learning standards for students of all ages;
  • Lead summer and seasonal camp programming including the recruitment of campers, development of new content, and facilitating camps with the help of support staff and volunteers;
  • Develop and lead nature-based educational programs for the public, including canoe/kayak guided trips;
  • Assist with monthly reporting of education program accomplishments;
  • Assist with general office duties: greeting visitors, answering phones, e-mails, open and close building, updating public bulletin boards, etc.;
  • Help with the organization and coordination of special public events;
  • Assist with writing materials for trail interpretation, Sanctuary’s newsletter and website, etc.

Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. or a M.S. in Environmental education, Environmental Science or a related field;
  • Proficiency on Microsoft office suite, Google suite products, and other computer skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of website content and design, and other social media outlets;
  • Three years’ experience working with children of all ages;
  • Three years’ experience in nature interpretation and outdoor education;
  • Experience with aligning education programs to formal learning standards a plus;
  • Willing to work under strenuous weather conditions;
  • Have a valid driver’s license;
  • Canoe and kayak experience is a plus;
