Scout Programs

Join us for Spring Stewardship Day!
Saturday, March 27, 2010
10:00 am – noon and 1:00 – 3:00 pm
Stewardship means taking care of the land we all share. Join us to pick up trash that has floated into the marsh, remove invasive weeds, and maintain our native plant gardens. Please dress in work clothes (long sleeves and long pants), including boots or shoes that can get wet, and bring work gloves, a bag lunch, a change of clothes and a towel. Children should be at least 6 years old. Scout troops and community groups are encouraged to participate. Sign up for am, pm, or both. Call 410-741-9330 to register.

If you have a group of Girl Scouts or Boy Scouts, the Sanctuary offers personally designed programs for your scout troop. We are more than willing to work with you to arrange a program to meet your interests and needs!Boy Scouts observing birds at the Glendening Preserve. (Photo Shirley Grace)

To Schedule a Scout Program

We do not enroll scouts in our general public programs. Separate scout programs are offered on a limited basis, so make your reservations BEFORE advertising the program to your group.

  1. Complete the Application Form. Include as many date choices as possible.
  2. A staff naturalist will contact you regarding date availability
  3. Program content and details will be discussed at that time and/or during a planning session.
  4. A program contract will be mailed indicating the date and program choice
  5. The program will be confirmed once the contract is signed by the leader and returned
  • A typical program lasts about 2 hours, but groups may extend their visit with a self-led hike through the Sanctuary. Picnic tables are available.
  • Programs are held on the weekend, outdoors, rain or shine, and may be scheduled year round. Some weekdays are available.
  • Scout Program Fees: $2.00 per child (siblings included). No fee for accompanying adults and chaperones.
  • Maximum group size: 20 people (children and adults); one adult chaperone required for every six children.
  • Adults and siblings are expected to be active participants in the program. Siblings may attend, but their ages should be appropriate to the activities.
