Wetland Ecology by Canoe

On the water--this is one of the best ways to learn about and discover the wonders of wetlands. The Patuxent River is a relatively slow-moving river and is great for beginners and advanced paddlers alike. Guided by a naturalist or trained volunteer, paddlers explore channels flowing through the wetlands to see these unique ecosystems up close. Among the lush wetland vegetation, birds and other animals abound. Trips are scheduled around high tide, so more of the marshes are accessible.
